My first venture into photographing motorsport was to go to the Historic Motorcycle Association Victoria state titles meet. The meet is held at the State Motorcycle Complex located just outside Broadford in Victoria (easy to find).

It was for me an amazing day. Something happens on the track every 10 minutes or so.The morning was filled with qualifying for each of the classes, 2 sessions of 5 laps for each class. The title is decided over four races; two legs on Saturday and two legs on Sunday. Racing, in earnest, starts at about 1pm on Saturday.

The road racing track at Broadford is made for spectators; except for the odd tree, I could see all of the track from my position at turn 9.

The noise is unbelievable. Two strokes have their necks wrung, the deep sound of V-twins, the roar of four strokes - single pots, multiple pistoned- various configurations. The smell of oil and racing fuel!
